Every one has a story. Don Dale engages people in conversation to find out their stories. Listed in reverse chronology, most recent interview is first. To locate a specific conversation, type a portion of the person's name in the search box to the left. Each program is approximately 30 minutes.
David Pippin, What’s Your Story?
David Pippin is one of Richmond’s most respected floral designers and horticulturists. It’s a profession he’s pursued since he was in high school in Louisa County. He talks with host Don Dale about his life, his profession, and his passion: teaching. He also talks about what he’ll be growing this season in his urban garden behind his home in the Carytown area and the pleasure of eating the first tomato of the season right from the vine.

Chris Semtner, What’s Your Story?
Poet and author Edgar Allan Poe spent much of his life in Virginia, but even here much of what we know about him is simply wrong. An expert on Poe, Chris Semtner, Curator, Poe Museum in Richmond, discusses Poe’s life, his tales of terror, and his haunting lyric poetry on “What’s Your Story?”

Ruth Eccleston, What’s Your Story?
Ruth Eccleston is a regular listener to the Virginia Voice, with one foot in Mexico and the other in the United States. She was born in what is now a suburb of Mexico City to a Mexican father, whose family was run out their home by Pancho Villa. Her father later married an American and returned to Mexico to raise his own family. He was also the author of a controversial book that cast doubt on whether Davy Crockett died fighting at the Alamo, and instead surrendered (along with his Tennessee boys) before being executed. Ruth discusses her life in Mexico, her marriage to an American and how she came to live in Richmond.

Amy Black, What’s Your Story?
Amy Black knew that she wanted to be an artist from the time she could speak. Following art school she found an unusual way to express her talent: she specialized in working with the human body as her canvas, becoming a respected tattoo artist. She’s now the owner of Trademark Tattoo in Carytown. One of her newer interests is creating tattooed nipple and aureole reconstruction for breast cancer survivors.

Sonja & Bud Brodecki, What’s Your Story?
Sonja and Bud Brodecki are survivors of the Holocaust. Sonja, who is now in her 80s, is the talkative one. Bud, who just celebrated his 90th birthday, sits nearby, mostly quiet. Sonja and Bud were born in Poland before World War II. They met as displaced persons right after the war ended. Their story is one of horrifying brutality and hardship, but Sonja credits an underlying faith in the future and in mankind for carrying them through unimaginably difficult times. Their optimism shines even today.
