Ashland–“The Center of the Universe”
Proclaimed “The Center of the Universe” by its residents, Ashland is 15 miles north of Richmond, in Hanover County. Ashland is only 90 minutes away from Washington, D.C. and Williamsburg. A day’s drive from Boston, New York, Detroit and Atlanta. In fact, 60% of the U.S. population is within 750 miles of Ashland!
Roseanne Shalf, President of the Ashland Historical Society, talks with Lou Dean about the roots, and charm, of Ashland, originally developed by the RF&P Railroad as a resort for Richmonders in the early 1800’s. Trains still rumble through the center of town, past Randolph-Macon College, lovely historic homes, shops and unique eateries.
