2011 Volunteer Appreciation Party

On Saturday, May 7th staff, listeners, volunteers, friends and family, all gathered at Virginia Voice to show our appreciation for the many hours of service that our wonderful volunteers donate to Virginia Voice. Once again, Ice Cream Connection Carts provided our frozen celebration refreshments. Todd Schall-Vess, General Manager of the Byrd Theatre, was our Master of Ceremonies. Todd kept us laughing and interacting all afternoon. Thanks to the generosity of the following local business and organizations, we were able to give our volunteers and party guests many door prizes and recognition gifts.

Every week, more than 100 volunteers are needed to provide the service of Virginia Voice. In 2010, our volunteers contributed more than 5,000 hours of service. So many volunteers gave us their time week after week. Some volunteered at 7:00 in the morning, some on weekends, some read in the studios, some delivered radios or helped in the office.  Every hour contributed is important to us.

Once each year we recognize those volunteers who help us by contributing the most hours. In 2010, the following volunteers spent 100 hours or more with Virginia Voice: Ken Semple, who is celebrating his 10th anniversary with us, Simon Kelly, Bob McIver, and Dave Thompson.

We also recognize the following volunteers who contributed between 90 and 100 hours in 2010:  Darrell Tetterton, Jack Bruce, Fred Danz and Anne Anderson.
